A draw for the allocation of racing lanes and dragon boats will also be conducted.

Feedback from the would be participants of the 5-Crew Dragon Boat Challenge 2008, suggest that the possibility of accidents and capsizes at the Turns of the 250 metres mark are very high.

In view of this, the organizing committee after having studied the feedback, has decided that the Race should be as interesting and as safe as possible for all participants. Hence it has reverted to a straight course of 500 metres without Turns.

In conjunction with this year’s Waterfest, the annual 5-crew Dragon Boat Challenge jointly organized by Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA) and People’s Association Water-Venture (PAWV), would be held on Saturday/Sunday, 4th & 5th October 2008 at the Marina Reservoir from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm daily. Finals cum Prize Presentation by the invited Guest-of-Honour would be held on Sunday, 5th October 2008.

Participants can choose to compete in the following:

a) National Championship (Men);
b) National Championship (Women);
c) Tertiary (Men);
d) Tertiary (Women); and
e) Inter-GRC CC YG (Open)

Each team will race a distance of 500 meters. Team coordination will be a unique test at the 250 meters Turning mark.

Each 5-crew dragon boat team will consist of four paddlers and one Steersman. The turning at the 250 meters mark is the crucial test of each team’s technique.

The registration fees are as follows:

a) $50.00 per team per event. (SDBA Affiliates).
b) $100.00 per team per event. (Non Affiliates).

The duly completed form with registration fee must reach the SDBA office on Friday, 19th September 2008 by 5.00 pm. Late submissions would not be entertained.
